Exchange Turbo Surcharge

Exchange Turbo Surcharge - Only within South African Borders

What is a Exchange Turbo?

Exchange turbochargers are remanufactured and ready to go, to you to save you the time it takes to repair your failed turbocharger. This means the exchange turbocharger you buy form us needs to be replaced with another unit that needs to undergo our remanufacture process. Exchange Turbo surcharge is added to the price to encourage you to return the failed turbocharger to replace the one you bought.

How is the price of a remanufactured turbocharger determined?

There is fundamental difference between a repair and the remanufacture of a turbocharger.

Our remanufactured turbochargers undergo a core replacement, the core is the centre part of the turbo which contains the rotational parts and sealing mechanisms, this is entirely replaced and in the form of a new core assembly. The price uses this process as a base line for its costing.

What then is a turbo repair?

A repair is when the turbo is dismantled and only the worn parts replaced, this can often lead to cheaper prices as old parts are reused, this has inherent pitfalls when it comes to longevity of the repaired unit especially to the rotational parts in the core assembly. Rotational parts are exposed to serve torsional stresses and repeated heat cycles that causes metal fatigue which can not be adequately tested, parts may appear to be fit for reuse only to fail shortly after a repair.

By replacing the core assembly in our remanufacturing process gives you peace of mind that the turbo you receive from us has fresh legs and ready to work.

How should a old turbo be returned.

Turbo must be returned not having been dismantled. All actuators must be present and no external impact damage present. Housings must not be damaged so that it cannot be used or modified in any way that deviates from the original design. Exchange units must be returned within 3 days of the delivery of the exchange unit bought form SA Turbo.

Failure to meet these requirements will result in the adjustment or cancellation of the surcharge refund.

When remanufacturing a turbocharger the following is taken unto consideration:

1) Compressor and turbine housing condition is checked

2) Mounting flanges of housings checked

3) Waste gate valves, bushings and seats are checked

4) Actuators, vacuum and pressure tested for their ability to hold pressure and rod movement

5) New core assembly is fitted

6) Electrically controlled actuators are comprehensively test for their response to signal and feed back signals and calibrated to the turbo.

7) Variable vanes are inspected and functionality confirmed at final turbo calibration.

8) Variable vanes cages and fixing mechanism are check.

9) Balancing of assembled core assemblies and flow calibration of turbochargers are closely audited

10) Please note gaskets can be bought in our online store
