Diesel Engine Firing and Injector Pipe Order
Are you holding a bunch of oddly shaped injector pipes in your hand and don't know where to start? Maybe you got the injector pipes fitted but the vehicle wont start?
We trust this article will assist.
Diesel engines with Zexel & Denso rotary VE injector pumps deliver diesel via injector pipes connected to injectors which deliver diesel fuel to the combustion chambers of a specific engine cylinder at a specific time.
Matching the engine firing order with the correct injector pipe order is critical for correct engine operation.
Number one cylinder on the engine is found closest to the cooling fan at the radiator end and follows in consecutive order 1 - 2 - 3 - 4. Firing order on a 4 cylinder engine follows a 1 - 3 - 4 - 2 sequence. The tricky part is understanding where number 1 - 2 - 3 & 4 is on the injector pump in order to match the corresponding injector pump outlet with the correct engine cylinder.
The diagrams below show a rear view of a VE rotary injector pump and its fuel delivery outlets and shows which outlet matches with its corresponding engine cylinder.
